THE ATACAMA CROSSING

30th March - 5th April 2008

It's all over! The race has now been and gone and I'm pleased to say that I'm (more or less) back in one piece.

And what an amazing week it was. It was an incredibly tough race, across some of the most brutal terrain I have have ever come across (there is absolutely nothing flat about 'salt flats') and the energy sapping effects of the altitude and heat frustrated my ambition to put in some respectable times. But the difficulties were easily offset by the breathtaking scenery, fantastic camaraderie and sheer joy of making it to the finish line.

As soon as I find a spare moment I'll put together a more detailed race report. In the meantime you can view a few of my photos by clicking here, including the obligatory pictures of rotten feet and as an extra treat, further snapshots of me getting my toenails drilled and having an IV drip inserted! (An excellent gallery of race photos and videos can also be found at the official race website by clicking here).

And finally, a huge thank you to everyone who supported me in this amazing adventure. Getting you emails and messages of support was a huge boost to the morale and with your help I have exceeded my fundraising target of £1,500 for the very worthy charity CLIC Sargent (and there is still time to donate if you want to make a post-race payment!)

Enjoy the photos and keep checking in. There are plenty more ridiculous races out there so you never know, Sand & Sweat may be back some day with another desert adventure!
